You're in the animagus community form voting rule section. You're probably new, so don't worry, this entry has a soothing DO NOT PANIC written all over it.
Question 2#: What is this place and what am I doing here?
This is the hih_animagus community. We animagus mods put up a batch of forms (mostly at the beginning of the month), in which there are a number of applicants (mostly three) that are curious as to what their Animagus Form would be. It's up to you to help them! Read through each application and wrack your brain to relate them to an animal - any animal under the sun! Once you've figured out what creature you're sure they are, scroll down to the bottom of the post and copy and paste the ballot into a comment under your house voting area (like at the platform) and write your brilliant idea! It's that simple!
Comments are screened so as to prevent lazy members (*looks around sternly* You know who you are!) saying "I agree with so-and-so". We want variety!
The only thing you need to be a member of is hogwartsishome! In OTHER words: You do NOT need to be a member of hih_animagus to be able to vote.
Question 3#: How much points do I get?
Well, when voting on the applicant, it is best to be as specific as possible. You get one point/one knut for listing the Species Category (see Question 4# for the list). You get ten points/one knut for being specific as to what species of animal you think the person is and for elaborating why you chose said species.
"CANINE/FELINE" or "CANINE: FOX" is good, but "CANINE: RED FOX because she's sly and cunning." is much, much better (and more productive)! Got that? Great!
Also, Registered Animagus get 10 extra points per batch! This, surprisingly, adds up to a lot of points for your house- so go get registered!
Question 4#: Okay, so where do I start?
Need some help with this? Know you want to give an applicant a certain type of lizard, but don't know much about the little buggers? Well, none of us have all of the animal kingdom in our head, but in those matters, Wikipedia is your best friend, and Google your second best friend! Simply type in a common animal - like dolphin - and you'll get a whole variety of sub-species! It's so nifty! And it also gives a ton of info on the animal, so you can match the critter to the applicant's personality exactly! Yay!
If you have absolutely no idea about where to even start, why not forage Wikipedia's larger lists? Here's a gentle nudge towards Wikipedia's list of animal families.
Choose a specific category you think the applicant fits best to, and go from there.
As you can see, magical animals are not on this list. It's impossible to become anything other than a real animal because in canon all registered animagi are real animals, and J.K.Rowling is never quoted to be saying otherwise (she'd want to be an otter animagi, and not the giant squid). Another reason is that previous applicants have not had this option and that would be unfair.
Question 5#: What do I HAVE to do?
1. Bold your vote.
2. Elaborate your vote. We are not asking for well-thought essays without fragment sentences (although we welcome those with open arms!), we're asking for good reasons why you chose this animal. The elaboration can go from anywhere to 6 adjectives to 500 sentences if you feel like it.
3. Sign your posts with your name and house.
Question 6#: What should I NOT do?
1. Do NOT vote on your own application!
2. Do NOT vote someone as an animal that someone has already claimed as their Animagus Form. Though, you may give them a different species of the same animal family - such as Bottle-Nose Dolphin and Dusky Dolphin. Please check out the profile page of hih_animagus to see which Animagus Forms are already claimed!
3. No vote someone ONLY for not providing enough information- NOT for pushing for an animal.
Question 7#: Could you give me examples of what a good vote could look like?
Sure! These examples are from the actual members, so check 'em out!
I thought the OTHER MAMMALS: Capybara might be suitable for this applicant. She seemed to be after a semi-aquatic animal so that's where I began my search. Although she seemed to want a faster, more aggressive animal, I thought this animal was rather fitting. It's a rather noisy, social creature that prefers warmer habitats.
Nocturnal, loner, secretive, liking cats... gracefulness... and the earth... I'm going to go with a large cat... I think the Puma fits best for this applicant because of solitary nature as well as the 'stalk and pounce', because that's what this applicant does to her friends, albeit she gives them gifts instead of eating them, but yeah.
First read of this app made me instantly think or a smallish animal with ears that flicker at the softest of sounds/vibrations. I think the neurotic quality really made that initial image for me. Sometimes I think the qualities we think of as negative can really shape us in a more significant way than the positive ones. By knowing your weakness you can utilise it and over come it. I think a Hare would fit her personality the most.
She describes herself as life smart and book smart, as well as being neurotic. She also classes bravery and loyalty (with a dash of smarts) above being devious. The European Brown Hare changes it diet from summer to winter, and although shy in spring it changes its habits and can be seen very opening. These aspects I believe reflect her cleverness, not only with diet (book smart) but with life (shying away from contact of humans etc..) keeping themselves away from harm. Hares live in nests, unlike rabbits who live in vast numbers in warrens and burrows, however you can still find Hares living in close proximity of each other. They are families and not only does this reflect her preference to be around people all the time, but also their loyalty to their kin. I have always though of Hares and rabbits as brave animals, whether that has been effected by Watership Down or not I don't know haha. They might not be the first to attack, but I don't think that is what bravery is about, they are brave enough to protect, which I think it a perfect mix of her choice of bravery and loyalty.
My official vote is OTHER MAMMALS: European Brown Hare
Question 8#: What if it is my first time voting and I'm not sure I'm doing everything correctly?
Don't worry at all! Even oldies make mistakes. Give it your best shot and if there's something wrong the mods will give you advice in form of a comment to your vote before voting ends. If the mods notice your mistake after voting ends, you still will be rewarded points (depending on how specific your vote was). Hurrah!
Question 9#: So I'd like to become an Animagus... What's the process look like?
Voting a few times before becoming an animagus is encouraged: you can familiarise yourself with the process; nevertheless, a quick run down:
Check out the Animagus Application Post to see if you qualify to become an Animagus. Fill out the application and post it to that entry. At the beginning of each month, applications will anonymously be put up by the mods (like this). Members of hogwartsishome will come up with animal suggestions which the mods filter through. In the end, the mods pick out four animagus choices that you, the applicant, can choose from (like this). To become a fully registered animagus you will have to write an essay explaining why you chose a specific animal out of the mod's pool of four within a specific date (essay post)- and when the essay gets approved you're finally a registered animagi!
Question 10#: I've got a suggestion! Where is the suggestion box?
Err, we don't have one! Why? Because it's easier for you to comment any where with a suggestion and one of us mods will surely get back to you in a quicker fashion than regularly having to check a suggestion box. If you want, you can comment in this post. If you've had a brilliant idea while reading through the new animagi choices post, why not comment to that, etc., We love suggestions, new ideas and discussions how to better this community.
Question 11#: INSERT YOUR QUESTION HERE
Don't be shy to ask in this post- us mods will get to it as soon as possible.
